WHAT IS MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID ?

Much like physical First Aid, Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the help given to someone until the appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves.  For MHFA this could be responding to a person who is developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis.
MHFA strategies are expert-consensus based and have been developed by Mental Health First Aid Australia, the body responsible for accrediting MHFA instructors across the country.

UPSKILL MENTAL HEALTH offers MHFA Courses as authored by MHFA Australia, delivered by instructors who are currently accredited by MHFA Australia

WHY IS MHFA IMPORTANT?

Approximately 20% of Australian adults experience a common mental illness each year. With Mental Health First Aid skills we can make a real difference to our community or work environment.

 MHFA TRAINING IS ASSOCIATED WITH:

  • Improved knowledge of mental illnesses, their treatments and appropriate first aid strategies.
  • Confidence in providing first aid to a person experiencing a mental health problem.
  • A decrease in stigmatising attitudes.
  • An increase in the amount and type of support provided to others.

The content of the Mental Health First Aid courses offered by UPSKILL MENTAL HEALTH is expert consensus-based with regular evaluation studies conducted to ensure the content is up-to-date and of the highest standard.
