LEARNING TO SUPPORT EACH OTHER

The 4th Edition 12-hour Standard Mental Health First Aid (SMHFA) course is based on international MHFA Guidelines. Curriculum content is expert consensus-based, with the input of mental health professionals, researchers and consumer advocates.

COURSE CONTENT
In SMHFA participants learn how to provide initial support to other adults who are developing any of the following mental health problems, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. Participants learn the signs and symptoms of mental health problems, where and how to get help and what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective.

DEVELOPING MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS
Depression
Anxiety problems
Psychosis
Substance Use Problems.

MENTAL HEALTH CRISES
Suicidal thoughts and behaviours
Non-suicidal self-injury
Panic attacks
Traumatic events
Severe psychotic effects from alcohol or other drug use
Aggressive behaviours.

COURSE FORMAT

The 12-hour course can be delivered in 1 of 3 ways:

Face-to-face: 2 x 6-hour sessions over 2 daysBlended Face-to-Face: Self-paced eLearning (5-7 hours), followed by a 4-hour face-to-face sessionBlended Online: Self-paced eLearning (5-7 hours), followed by 2 x 2.5-hour videoconferencing sessions
